The Challenge
We love our Digital Gatherings - they’re a great way to connect, share, and spark conversations. Over the years, we’ve kept things fresh, from pre-event product drops to post-event surprises, and yes, even breakfast on us. But with Spring PR turning 25 this year, we wanted to celebrate differently. No more ‘just another seeding box’ - this year, it’s all about giving back. And with 25 ways to give in our anniversary pledge, we had the perfect excuse to do things differently.
The Strategy
In a world where some have too little and others are drowning in (very generous) PR gifting, we saw an opportunity for a little redistribution. We invited the media and influencers to send us products they didn’t need - or never really wanted in the first place - so we could regift them to two charities close to our hearts. No waste, no clutter - just good product going to those who truly need it.
The Tactics
First, we reached out to our chosen charities - Doorway, a homeless charity in Chippenham, and Youth Adventure Trust, which empowers young people through outdoor adventure and one-to-one support. Then, we got to work. Ahead of the Digital Gathering, we sent out large, recycled brown paper bags to our confirmed attendees with one simple mission: to fill them to the brim with PR gifts they didn’t need or want. No waste, no guilt - just a chance to pass things on to those who would truly benefit. And to make it even easier, we covered the cost of postage back to our office.
The Results
A rail bursting with outdoor gear - beanies, fleeces, insulated jackets, shoes - something for everyone. And for the Youth Adventure Trust, that “something” can make all the difference. As they told us, “Sometimes the young people turn up for a day without suitable kit, and if we can offer them a fleece or jacket, that would be amazing.”
This project is still ongoing, but one thing’s clear - our 58 media attendees didn’t just experience another Digital Gathering; they became part of something bigger. Now, we can’t wait for the official handover once every last item is in. Stay tuned!
“What a lovely email to get! Thank you so much for your digital gathering - what a great idea. We would love the caps and other outdoorgear you've collected and I'm sure whatever there is we will be able to put to good use. Sometimes the young people don't always have the right kit and so if we can offer them a fleece or jacket that would be amazing.” Philippa Cox, Partnership Manager, Youth Adventure Trust
